Tool for descaling fish comprises a mating pair of contiguous scrapers with coplanar scraping surfaces; the scrapers move back and forth in opposite directions to each other and are coupled to a drive unit providing suitable, reciprocating drive motion in opposite senses for the two scrapers. One of the scrapers is pref. formed with a guide channel in which the other scraper slides backwards and forwards. Both scrapers should be furnished with many scraping teeth, the tops of the teeth on both scrapers moving in the same plane; each tooth is pref. polygonal in cross-section, has a flat top and corner edges rising at right angles to the tooth support plate. Each scraper is pref. coupled to a drive unit element by a flexible link detachably hooked to the element. Scraping scales is facilitated from the skins of fish. The tool is simple and inexpensive to make and easy to use. It offers much faster descaling than the manual descaling knife and does not scatter scales in every direction as does the knife. The tool is readily dismantled for cleaning and is much less dangerous than the manual knife.
|
