Due to malfunctions, throttle valve adjusters of this type have a tendency to undesirable increase of the engine speeds and when used in motor vehicles, therefore, can cause dangerous driving situations. The said disadvantage is avoided by the new throttle valve adjuster. The new throttle valve adjuster is characterised in that, in the event of malfunctions, a fault signal activates a hydraulic, pneumatic or electromagnetic actuator incorporated in the adjuster tappet and the adjuster tappet experiences a longitudinal adjustment which leads to the engine speed being reduced to a maximum admissible value. Throttle valve adjusters of this type have applications especially in the motor vehicle sector.
