High strength, fibre-contg materials - contg cured mixture of three fibrous materials, carbide, nitride, fluorocarbon and thermosetting resin

Compsn. for the manufacture of nonwoven material, esp. for prodn. of mechanical components, e.g. components of centrifugal pumps, consists of (wt.%) (1) 2-8 carbon fibres, (2) 1-4 synthetic fibres, (3) 2-16 pyrocarbide fibres, (4) 1-8 silicon of boron carbide, (5) 1-2 silicon or boron nitride, (6) 6-13 fluorohydrocarbons having a thermal resistance of 350-450 degrees C, (7) 2-3 thermosetting resin, and (8) 1-2 curing agent, the balance consisting of (9) a solvent. Excellent resistance to abrasion, erosion, heat and chemicals. Rigidity and flexibility can be controlled by varying the amounts of the different components in the compsn.
