The disc or diaphragm is composed of a layer of heat resistant metal or steel 100-1000 (100-300) micron thick and a layer of a corrosion resistant metal such as Ta, Ti, Zr, Mo, Ni, Pt or an alloy of these metals of 50-150 micron thickness. The second layer is free of pores and has a fine-grained structure (ASTM 5-9). The composite is produced by explosive forming. Used for bursting discs or diaphragms in pressurized containers, vessels, pipelines pumps or the like. Pref. the disc is composed of a base plate of steel clad to a layer of pref. Ta, Ti or Zr by explosive forming and is then rolled to final dimension using several intermediate anneals.
