The tail unit e.g. for shuttlecock, javelin or dart has a wall thickness, taking min. wt. into account, sufficient to maintain a stable shape of the tail unit when hit, during flight and on meeting a target. Pref. the wall is perforated with round holes of different size offset from each other and without holes in the region adjoining the projectile body. The tail unit may be attached directly to the projectile body by its smaller-dia. edge, and may be foamed together with the adjoining projectile body in one piece. The tail unit is lighter than one made of injection moulded plastic, and has greater rigidity, thus increasing its working life without affecting its flight properties.
