Safety belt variable strap brake - produces braking force acting directly on strap without use of prestress or deforming elements

The variable strap brake is suitable for use on safety belt webbings as retaining device at sudden decelerations. It consists of two half-bushings seated in PTFE on two side dishes. The strap is inserted between the gaps of the half bush such that while the forming loop emerge from one of the gaps, the two free ends of the strap emerge from the other gap pointing in opposite directions. When tensile force is applied at these ends, the half bushes swivel in opposite directions and the gap through which the loop part of the strap threaded, closes to prevent the loop from being spent. A pin serves for producing an initial friction for keeping the loop in the original size.
