<p>Polyolefin, esp. ethylene homo- or co-polymer, materials pref. plates and sheets opt. expanded, are bonded to other materials, pref. plastics, wood, cardboard, metal, concrete or stone, by applying to the untreated surface of the polyolefin a soln. contg. a hot melt adhesive, evaporating the solvent and bonding the polyolefin to the substrate which opt. may have been likewise treated, the bonding being effected immediately or when desired, by melting the adhesive. High adhesive strength can be obtd. with non polar substrates. The time when and the zone where the adhesive is applied may be different to those when the bonding proper is to be carried out. The actual bonding is done by simply heating the adhesive with e.g. hot air and pressing the materials, pref. using an additional adhesive e.g. a synthetic rubber. The hot melt adhesive pref. contains 20-70 wt. % ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer contg. 5-50% acetate and having a melt index of 10-400 g/10 min.</p> |
