1467663 Pneumatic separation DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT 1 March 1974 [19 March 1973] 9298/74 Heading B2H Grit is removed from a gas stream containing, and used for the pneumatic conveyance of, finely dispersed solids e.g. carbon black, by passing the stream across a space so that the grit drops downwards under the effect of gravity and passing air countercurrent to the falling grit to keep the finely dispersed solids in a state of suspension. In the embodiment shown, the gas stream containing grit and carbon black is introduced into a closed housing 2 through a pipe 1, a reduced pressure being maintained in the housing 2 by evacuation through a pipe 3. The grit drops down and is removed from the housing via an outlet 5' and a rotary feeder 6. A secondary air stream is introduced into the housing through a valve 7 and frees the falling grit from any carbon black which adheres to it and returns the carbon black to the main airstream which passes out of the housing through a pipe 3. In a modification the extent to which the pipe I extends into the housing 2 is adjustable and the exterior of the housing is heated by means of steam coils.
|
