1467373 Cutting tools VALERON CORP 13 March 1974 [14 March 1973] 11117/74 Heading B3B A cutting tool comprises a tool body 10 having a plurality of alternative positioning means, e.g. slots 12, 16, for receiving a detachable cutting insert locating member 32, the said locating member 32 having a laterally projecting key to engage in a selected slot 12, 16, the side walls of the key and slot and the engaging lateral planar surfaces of the locating member 32 and body 10 serving to locate and rigidly support the cutting insert 34, characterized in that parallel walls 26 of the key and slot are perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of an elongate insert supporting the locating means, e.g. groove 31, of the member 32, and an end wall 20 of the key and slot is parallel thereto, with the said insert supporting and locating groove 36 extending beyond an end of the body 10. A clamping screw 56 clamps the locating member to the body and a clamping screw 46 deflects a clamp portion 40 of the locating member about a neck portion 42 to clamp the cutting insert 34, e.g. into a V-groove 36. The body 10 has slots 12, (14) (Fig. 2, not shown) on opposite sides of the body and connected by a single tapped hole to receive the screw 56 from either end. The slot 16 may be provided at either end of the body. A set of interchangeable right and left hand locating members 32 can be provided. The locating member 32 may be narrowed down from its face adjacent the body 10 to set-off the cutting insert from the lateral body face. The locating member may be shaped to extend well below the body to support a narrow cutting insert, e.g. a parting-off or grooving insert. |
