1467100 Tyre chains WOLKRO AG 14 Aug 1975 [14 Aug 1974] 33935/75 Heading B7C [Also in Division B2] A vehicle tyre chain comprising a web of plastics-coated fibres is made by spreading an endless mesh of synthetic fibres to the required wheel diameter, and while spread, immersing it in a solution of heat-vulcanizable elastomer, withdrawing it therefrom and drying out at least 80% of the solvent, and repeating the immersion and drying until all the fibre interstices have been filled and a suitable thickness of elastomer layer has been formed, then treating the coated mesh in a hot steam autoclave under pressure until the elastomer has cured. The synthetic fibre, preferably nylon, may be treated with a de-sizing agent followed by a bond promoting agent before immersion. The autoclaving is preferably performed at sufficiently high temperature (e.g. 140‹ C.) to cause partial fusing and cross-welding of the elastomer. |
