A vertically sliding window of a motor vehicle slides in guides (1) which consist of a metal U section (3) in which an elastomeric U section (2) is fitted. Rectangular openings (5) which extend in the longitudinal direction are formed in each of the flanges of the metal U section. A strip (7) of resilient material is fitted between each flange of the metal U section and the corresponding flange of the elastomeric U section in order to increase the sealing pressure on the window pane. The reaction pressure exerted by the elastomeric section (2) on the strip causes it to curve outwards into the openings. USE - Sliding windows for motor vehicles.
