The transformer housing is filled with insulating liq. and a core for at least one coil, whose conductor is set in several layers round the core. Solid insulating barriers are fitted between the core and the housing and possibly between other coils. Each coil (11 - 13) and the associated insulating barriers have a polygonal contour with rounded corners. The corner radii for each coil layer and the associated insulating barriers are identical. Pref. the insulating barriers consist of mutually overlapping individual elements. The insulating barriers may consist of a modular system of flat plates, bent angular couplers, and components bent in two planes. ADVANTAGE - Adaptibility to coils of different dimensions, and low-cost mfr.
