1467307 Pipe couplings NIPPON KOKAN PIPE FITTING MFG CO Ltd 9 Aug 1974 35271/74 Heading F2G A fitting for connecting together two tubes 28 comprises a body 22 having a nut 24 screwed on each end thereof and located between the nut 24 and a counter base 30 at each end of the body 22 on elastic material sealing gasket 38, a backup ring 42, a split biting ring 44 having an outer surface 48 which increases in diameter toward the centre of the body 22 and an inner surface 50 which decreases in diameter towards the centre of the body, and an end face 46 abutting the ring 42 and defining with the surface 50 an acute circular edge 52, and a wedge ring 56 having an inner surface 58 complementary to the outer surface 48 of the split ring 44, the arrangement being such that on tightening of the nut 24, the circular edge 52 will be forced to bite into the associated tube 28 to resist any subsequent forces tending to withdraw the tube 28 and the gasket 38 will be forced to seal around the tube. The biting element 44 may be of steel and of greater hardness than the material of the tubes 28 and the wedge ring 56 may also be of steel or of an electrically non-conducting synthetic resin to provide insulation between the two tubes 28. In an alternative embodiment the nut 24 are formed with external screw threads and are screwed into the body 22 and the wedge rings 56 are formed integral with the nuts. |
