The tampn is made from a long rectangular strip of matl. by doubling it over end-to-end, rolling it into a cylinder (with the doubled edge on the outside), and then turning over the ends of the cylinder, tucking the outside into the middle of the roll. The result is sausage-shaped, with a dimple at each end, all loose ends tucked in, and twice as many thicknesses at the ends as the middle. The tampon has firm, uniformly dense ends, and a comparatively soft middle. The middle can be made firm too, if desired, by starting with a differently shaped strip of matl. In either case, the overall density can be controlled by rolling the strip more of less tightly. |
