The administration of 25-hydroxycholecalciferol, 24,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol, 25,26-dihydroxycholecalciferol, 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol, 25-hydroxydihydrotachysterol3, 25-hydroxyergocalciferol, 1- alpha -hydroxycholecalciferol, and their acylates to hens increases the thickness of the egg shells. Composition and methods are provided.
