The machine is used to wind rolls of sheet and to cut the sheet cloth without interrupting the movement of the sheet. The strip of material (10) passes round the guide roller (11) and on to a roll (12) on a central hub (13). Two hubs are mounted and driven on a support (14, 15) which pivots when the roll is nearly complete to bring an empty hub (16) into position to receive the material. When it is required to cut the material, a device (17) pivots bringing a roller (21) on to the cloth. A cutting blade is mounted on a traverse (20) between two side arms (18) and is moved across the strip, cutting it diagonally without interrupting its movement. The leading end of the material is then brought down to start the new roll.
