<p>Pyrido (2,3-b) pyridines of formula (I) and their salts are novel. In (I) R is H, 1-6C alkyl, 3-6C alkenyl or alkynyl in which the multiple bond is not in the alpha position with respect to the N atom, 3-6C cycloalkyl, 3-6C cycloalkyl-1-2C alkyl or Y, Y1 are each H, F, Cl, Br, 1-3C alkyl, 1-3C alkoxy or CF3; n = 0 or 1; R1, R2 are each H or 1-4C alkyl. With the condition that at least one of R, R1, R2 is not H). (I) have activity similar to that of disodium chromoglycate in particular inhibiting the liberation of histamine. They are used to treat allergic states e.g. allergic asthma by administration in daily doses of 20-200 mg by oral, parenteral or rectal routes. (I) are prepd. by reacting nitroacetate with strong base and pyrido (2,3-d) oxazine-2,4-dione. Pref. cpds. are R1=7-methyl, R2=H and R=methyl or allyl.</p> |
