The base construction element (1) has a U section which is made from a hard cellular plastic material. The front faces at the free ends of the branches (2) have holes (3). These holes are designed to receive assembly pegs. Using these pegs one can assemble two or more elements (1) to form an envelope. If a larger base is required the element (1) can be cut into two parts so as to obtain two right angled pieces. These right angled pieces can be fixed on either side of intermediate side pieces to form rectangular or square base shapes.
