Pneumatic hammer with flattened shaft - has rollers preventing direct contact between tool and hood for reducing wear

The pneumatic hammer has housing and a sliding barrel for holding a tool with a collar. The impact piston within the barrel is loaded with compressed air. The tool is held on the barrel in a noncircular bore with transverse holding pins. Direct contact between the machine hood and tool side wall is prevented so that no vibrations are transmitted to the worker. This arrangement simplifies the hammer guide and reduces hood wear. Between the front part of the hood (16) and the tool (6) are arranged intermediate rods or rollers (52) in contact with the tool (6). These truncate the sides of the opening to form an opening of noncircular shape which matches flats on the sides of the tool (6). The intermediate rollers are arranged in crossed pairs in different planes at right angles to the tool axis.
