A combined collar and lead for domestic animals is constructed such that the lead and collar together form a single compact connected unit. A lead coiling or retracting device is incorporated into the collar unit so that when required the animal may be released from manual impervision at the end of the lead and the head coiled up or retracted into the collar in a single operation without the necessity to disconnect the lead from the collar.
