In the novel immunological surface test process, a substrate having a partial monomolecular surface layer comprising an immunologically reactive antigen and an immunologically inert organic compound which separates and surrounds the antigen molecules is initially coated. The coated substrate is then brought into contact with an aqueous medium which contains an immunologically reactive antibody specific to the antigen. The immunological reaction as a result proceeds with substantially improved contact between the layers. In the process, the inert organic compound employed can be bovine serum albumin, ovalbumin or insulin. The antigen can be an anti-immunoglobulin of the antibodies of one of the immunoglobulin IgG class. The novel test process is used for the determination of the presence or absence of pathological antigen/antibodies or complexes thereof in aqueous media, such as, for example, blood sera. <IMAGE>
