In a device for the temporay elimination of play in rolling bearings, esp. those used on the roll shafts in rolling mills in which the bearings are subjected to radial loads, >=1 hydraulic press. device exerts a radial stress on the outer bearing race which matches the direction and magnitude of the radial stress imposed on the bearing during its working life, esp the stress produced by the roll press. in rolling metals. The pref. hydraulic device uses a cylinder driving a piston with a profiled working surface against the outer race. The gap between the working surface and the race is filled with a pressure cushion of paste or gel. Used e.g on bearings used in rolling mills employed for mfg. tube or ord. The device simulates the rolling press. in a fixture when the roll surfaces are being ground, so the grinding allows for bearing play, and the overall dimensional accuracy of the rolled prods is improved. |
