In mfrg. a plate or sheet of metal esp. steel a stream of the molten metal at a temp. slightly above the liquidus is contacted with a jet of gas, reducing w.r.t. the metal at that temp., so as to pulverise the jet and the granules produced are immediately compacted or rolled. The process avoids the need to preheat particles in reducing atmosphere which have already been quenched or otherwise cooled as in prior art.
