A disposable cutting insert comprises a body having parallel top and bottom faces 46, 48 and a peripheral surface 44 perpendicular to the faces, at least one of the faces having a peripheral recess 50 of concave transverse cross-section the outer surface portion 52 of which forms, where it meets the peripheral surface, an included angle of less than 90 degrees, the outer surface portion being longitudinally concave in a direction perpendicular to the peripheral surface. The inner surface portion 54 of the recess meets the top and/or bottom face so as to form an island area in the centre of the top and/or bottom faces. |
