1464367 Catalyst premixes for use with unsaturated polyesters H CLARKE & CO (MANCHESTER) Ltd 21 May 1974 [22 May 1973] 24363/73 Heading C3P A premix for use in preparing insulator compositions comprises calcium carbonate and/or alumina hydrate and a catalyst for cross-linking unsaturated polyester resins, Preferably the calcium carbonate is an uncoated whiting of particle size not greater than 325 mesh (43 Á) with most preferably a statistical mean diameter of 2-3 Á. The catalyst may be an organic peroxide, e.g. t-butyl perbenzoate, or t-butyl peroctoate. Additional ingredients include: a mould release agent, e.g. zinc stearate, an aluminium stearate, a calcium stearate, molybdenum disulphide, graphite or a mixture of at least two thereof; a chrysolitic material, e.g. asbestos; a pigment, e.g. titanium dioxide and or a cadmium pigment; low density microfine polyethylene; a thickener, e.g. MgO and/or Mg(OH) 2 ; a flame retardant, e.g. antimony oxide with either at least one chlorinated paraffin or pentabromotoluene; an abrasion resistant material, e.g. finely ground polystyrene; a reinforcing agent, e.g. chopped strand glass; and a preaccelerator for cross-linking polymerization. The unsaturated polyester resin may comprise a styrene modified or di-alpha phthalate modified resin. |
