Mineral compressor oils with excellent oxidn. stability - contg. aromatic amine, alkyl phenol and dithiophosphate ester

Novel compressor oil compsn. consist of a base lubricating oil contg. smaller amts. of (a) 0.001-3 (0.05-0.3) wt. % of an aromatic amine, (b) 0.001-3(0.05-0.2) wt. % of an alkyl phenol, and (c) 0.001-3(0.03-0.2) wt. % of a dithiophosphate triester. They possess excellent oxidn. stability giving much longer life under oxidising conditions (as in air compressors) than oils contg. usual antioxidants. When oxidn. occurs, they do not create serious problems, e.g. sludge formation. A typical compressor oil is based on a mineral oil with viscosity 35 cSt at 37-8 degrees C, with addn. of 0.5 wt.% diphenylamine, 0.2% 4,4'-methylene bis(2,6-di-tert. butyl phenol), and 0.2% O,O'-bis(propyl phenyl) S-benzyl dithiophosphate.
