The novel process for the bonding of reactive constituents of immunological complexes in separate layers to a surface results in the constituents remaining active and the contrast being improved. Initially, a metallised substrate is coated with a monomolecular layer of a first reactive constituent together with inert organic compounds. The reactive constituents are separated from one another by the inert organic compounds. After this, the coated substrate is brought into contact with an aqueous medium which contains a second immunologically reactive constituent specific to the first reactive constituent in order to produce an immunological complex reaction. In this process, the second constituents combine with the first constituents with the formation of a bimolecular layer on the substrate. The novel process is used for the determination of the presence or absence of a suspected constituent in an aqueous medium or blood serum. <IMAGE>
