New medicaments contain amino acid amide(s) of formula A-CO-NH2 (I) (where a is 1-amino-2-phenylethyl or 5-oxopyrrolidin-2-yl) or an innocuous salt with an (in)organic acid. (I) may be in the form of the optically active D- and/or L-isomer. (I) have antidepressant activity, but undesired side-effects, eps. stimulation of thyrotropin release, are minimised. The antidepressant activity of (I) is rapid in onset, and the cpds. promote motivation, bring about psychostimulation, and have a favourable effect on motor disorders such as Parkinsonism, therapeutic Parkinsonism and chorea.
