Coin handling equipment comprises a guide channel with an optical pick-up, coin tester (4) and an electronic logic circuit (5). Tested coins pass through a duct (6) leading to a distributor plate (8). This has a planet wheel drive to transfer coils to a number of vertical chutes (19, 20) selected by the logic circuit. Coins may be transferred either to a main store (21) or to a feedback tray (22). Locking mechanisms to fix the position of the rotary distributor plate utilise the principle of a conical headed bolt actuated by electro-magnetic means and fitting a matching bolt-hole in an adjacent plate.
