The drum can be withdrawn from the enclosure through the hole 10 and removed from the fastening member 19 and replaced by a new drum ready for a further charge. Furnace charges 7 pass into the drum along the pipe 6 through a passageway that can be closed by the door 8. The drum is rotated by the shaft 18 which is driven by a device in the body 16. Compressed air is supplied through a retractable pipe 26. Furnace gases escape through the hole 23 to the pipe 3 which can be fitted with a filter. When calcination is complete and the drum is withdrawn, the door 11 is closed to retain heat while a new drum is prepared.</p> |
