The Otto engine contact breaker has a stationery support plate, rotatably mounting a breaking plate with a carrier contact. On the breaking plate is swivably mounted a breaking lever whose contact moves against a spring force in a relative movement to the support contact. A slide path (21) is recessed in the support plate (12), and its longitudinal extension diverges with the rotary movement of the breaking plate (11). On the latter is rotatably mounted a sleeve (16) with a slide dog (20) whose protrusion forms a link motion with the slide path. Preferably the sleeve carries also the support contact (17) to which the slide dog is diametrally opposite.
