发明名称 VIDEO DISPLAY APPARATUS
摘要 1466725 Television SONY CORP 16 May 1974 [19 May 1973] 21826/74 Heading H4F In a television receiver employing a flat panel display of the X-Y matrix type (e.g. incorporating gas-discharge, liquid crystal or electro luminescent elements) the video drive pulse signal are modulated in both width and amplitude as functions of the video signal level. The arrangement, which combines the known methods of width modulation or of amplitude modulation used singly avoids the drawbacks of insufficiently uniform characteristics in driving transistors in the case of amplitude modulation and of the slow response of the panel elements in the case of width modulation. As shown in Fig. 5 (in which only a small portion of the panel 1 is depicted) a synch separator 10 supplied with the output of the video detector 8 (of a television receiver) controls a pulse generator 11 which provides vertical and horizontal frequency pulses S V , S H respectively (see also Fig. 6) as input and as clocking pulses respectively to a shift register 12 which generates drive pulses a 1 , a 2 ... a 5 ... an, to energize, successively via respective transistors the horizontal row lines X1, X2 ... X 5 ... X n . The output of the video detector 8 is also fed via a video amplifier 9 to a level detector 13 which provides sixteen discrete output levels t 0 , t 1 ... t 15 as inputs to a four-bit binary coder 14. The latter produces an output on lines t A , t B , t C , t D which are respectively connected to multivibrators A 1 , A 2 ...A m ,B 1 , B 2 ...,B m , C 1 , C 2 ...C m and D 1 , D 2 ... D m . The multivibrator groups A and B comprise monostable circuits producing, respectively pulses P A and P B (see Fig. 8) of the same predetermined amplitude and of respective durations “.TH and ¢.TH where TH is horizontal period. Similarly the multivibrator groups C and D which comprise bi-stable circuits produce respective pulses P C , P D , the pulse P C having the same amplitude as pulses P A and P B but of duration TH and the pulse P D having twice the amplitude of pulses P A to P C and a duration TH. The output pulses from each "vertical column" of multivibrators, e.g. A 1 , B 1 , C 1 and D 1 (which are binary weighted 1 2 4 8) are combined and fed to the base electrodes of transistors Q1, Q2 ... Q m and as the "vertical columns" are successively sampled by gate signals b1, b2 ... b m (see also Fig. 7), derived from a shift register 16 supplied with the pulse SH and with timing pulses Ss from generator 15, the column lines Y1, Y2 ... Y m are successively energized to produce, at the intersection with the X row lines, light emission having an intensity determined by the amplitude and width of the combined pulse pattern from each "vertical column" of multivibrators. Fig. 9 shows such pulse pattern for each of the sixteen levels 0 ... 15 the start of light emission being delayed by about ten microseconds as shown by dotted lines.
