1517469 Modulating light COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE SA 26 Aug 1976 [8 Sept 1975] 35486/76 Heading G2F A light focusing mirror assembly with a deformable reflecting surface, comprises a rigid support plate I having cooling ducts 2, 3, 4 therein, and at least one mirror part 6 made of Piezo-electric material, part 6 having a top face carrying a metallic reflecting layer 10, which also constitutes a top face electrode, and being mounted on said support plate with a bottom face electrode 12 therebetween, the electrodes being arranged to be connected to a source 18 of electric signals whereby the Piezoelectric material and hence the reflecting surface of the assembly may be deformed. The mirror assembly may comprise a plurality of Piezo-electric mirror parts 6, 7, 8 disposed side by side on the support plate and acting to focus light to a common point. Alternatively, a single mirror part (23) Fig. 2 (not shown), may be provided, said single mirror part having a plurality of bottom face electrodes (26). The Piezo-electric material may consist of monocrystalline lithium niobate, the metallic reflecting layers 10 consisting of gold. The electric signal source 18 may be constituted by an electronic control system having an input 20 connected to a photo-electric detector 19 placed to receive the focused light. |
