Removal of dust and noxious components from waste gas - using scrubber having series of water contact chambers with sprays and water entrainment

The gaseous emission is fed downwards onto the surface of a water sump. It flows along the surface and then under the surface around the edge of a sill which projects down below the water surface. From here it passes into a chamber where it is vigorously mixed in turbulent flow with the water. The particulate material and the specified noxious gases are retained in the water droplets and the water contg. the solids and dissolved gases is then removed from the sump. The water level is controlled each side of the sill. The process is carried out in a series of stages. The gas streams can be sprayed with water before being fed onto the water surface. Process is esp. useful for NO2 removal from waste gas and in the electronics industry. The min. of water is used and the process is easily to control.
