摘要 <p>Monocarboxylic acids are prepd. by reacting linear 8-18C mono- or diolefins with CO and water in the presence of an Ir carbonyl iodide catalyst or of a catalyst "residue" and an iodide accelerator at 125-200 (165-185) degrees C under 11-56 (13-35) kg/cm2 press. Molar ratio I:Ir in reaction mixt. is 3:1 to 15:1. Quantity of water in reaction mixt. is >0.1 wt. % of total wt. of catalysts, accelerator, water CO, olefin and reaction products, up to max. water quantity which is soluble in reaction system under the reaction conditions. No further solvent is added to reaction system. The alkali salts of the acids obtd. are active as surfactants and may replace coconut fat soaps in soap bars and cleansing compsns. Products contain a higher percentage of monocarboxylic acids having a COOH end-group. Conversion of the acids to paraffins is minimised. Inan example a mixt. of 3000 g 1-decene, 15 g IrCl3 hydrate and 60 g 50% aq. HI was kept 3 hours at 150 degrees C under 28 kg/cm2 CO press. Water content was kept at 0.2-1.5%. Reaction mixt. contained 82% monocarboxylic acids.</p>
