The powered shield supports composed of floor plates with hinged props to carry the canopies are grouped into line pairs with interposed two-shield groups which form master units with the floor plates hinged together. Aligners are fitted to the waste end of the floor plates in both line and master group shields. The aligners on the line shields are fixed as compared with the aligners on the master groups which can adjust relative to the floor plate width so as to advance the shields along the face where the seam stands on a gradient. In the line shieds there should be two hydraulic props arranged on the edges of thefloorplate in a plane parallel to the axis of the conveyor, through it is also possible to use single prop shields, the prop hinged to the floor plate and otherwise to the shield canopy.
