The thermoelement, with semiconductor layer, consists of a semiconductor layer (1) plane-parallel between hot and cold rails (2, 3) so that one surface is in thermal contact with the hot rail and the other in contact with the cold rail via thermally-conducting contact pieces (4, 5) spaced regularly along between the surfaces of the semiconductor layer and the rails. The cavities formed between contact pieces, rails and the semiconductor layer are filled with an inert gas. The advantage of this arrangement lies in its reducing thermal and electrical losses and in giving a high power thermo-element.
