The balustrade has a continuous safety device against tension loads, inserted in the rails, particularly a rope. The rope (6) is accommodated in a groove (7) formed in the rail (1), and accessible from outside. The groove can be situated in the side of the rail nearest the bars (3), the ends of the bars extending over it, and can be closed by a specially-shaped cover (8). The groove can be situated off-centre, to allow space alongside for posts (2) and bars.
