<p>The valve stem (13) is moved by a screw with a handle, and is surrounded by a length of high-pressure tubing (2) which snakes from side to side. Fixing rings (10) vulcanised to the tube at intervals, are attached to two rods (9) which are parallel to the valve stems. Alternate rings are attached to opposite rods. When the frame carrying the rods is given a quarter turn using another handle the tube twists and seals the valve. The crooked flexible high-pressure tube may be used to surround a rotating cranked shaft, whose shape the tube follows. The flexibility of the tube allows it to move as the shaft rotates, without breaking the pressure seal.</p> |
