The safety belt has at least one angled shoulder section element which is connected to an upper and lower attachment point. There is an adjustment element (16) in the form of a slide near the upper mounting or attachment point (8). The adjustment element (16) is slid up and down the angled shoulder section (4) of the safety belt in order to adjust the tension, and general fit of the belt so as to accommodate passengers of casying dimensions with comfort. This adjustment gives freedom of movement in the neck region.
