A lock has a moulded housing (10) containing the mechanism for operating the sliding latch (18) and a cranked part (12) for the operating the rotary rod (25) operated by the key. This rod has a cantilevered support (23) connected to the side wall of the housing. The cantilevered part is spaced from the base (9) of the housing so that it clears the operating path of the cranked part (15) of the shaft (12). The free end of the cantilever (23) points in the direction of the latch opening. There is a space underneath the cantilever to give access to the shaping tool during the moulding. The opening is then closed-up by a plug.
