The electronic circuit includes a multivibrator feeding an impulse transformer and provides 18kV at the electrodes from 12V batteries in the handle. In contrast to the usual goad, which switches itself on when the electrodes contact the animal, this one may be pre-set. The circuit has a two-position master switch and a sprung operating button. The electrodes are protected by a cap when not in use. The goad has a long round shaft which tapers over a conical section to the square handle. A strap holds it on the user's wrist. It is light in weight and easily carried.
