A slide angle detecting circuit of a press includes a counter logic circuit (20), a data interface circuit (30) and a setting error detection and interface circuit (50). The angle detecting circuit reads out the slide movement in the absolute value of angle so that the present position of the slide is recognized as it is when the power is off. The counter logic circuit (20) consists of an encoder output circuit (1), a counter circuit (2), a BCD output circuit (4), an encoder signal transforming circuit (3) and an error detecting and program selection circuit and an error detecting and program selection circuit (5).
