1517505 Laminates; boards G W WYNN Ltd 27 Aug 1975 [28 Aug 1974] 37630/74 Headings B5N and B5L A unit construction element comprises at least two elongate members providing respective layers or laminations of the element and secured together at an interface by adhesive, there being over the extent of the interface between the members a region of relatively weak interconnection formed by the adhesive or material of the interface immediately adjacent thereto, an applicant of a separating force to the elongate members the region providing a flat rupture surface in a plane that is in or that is generally parallel to the interface, for removal thereby of a portion or portions of at least one of the mutually adhered members at an arbitrarily chosen region or regions along the length of the element after cutting through the thickness of the at least one member at opposite ends of a chosen region substantially to the depth of the adhered interface. The unit construction element may be a multiple-layer board or panel comprising a facing layer and an underlying layer formed by a series of parallel longitudinally extending members in the form of ribs secured or to facing layer at intervals permitting the interleaving of respective series of ribs of similar-boards to form a joint between the boards. A sheet material, e.g. of paper or reconstituted wood particle material, may be interposed at the interface between the mutually secured members and affixed thereto with adhesive on its opposite faces, the sheet material being rupturable intermediate its thickness for removal of a portion or portions of the element. Alternatively the layers may be secured together by a rupturable layer of a polymeric emulsion adhesive or the material of at least one of the adhered layers may be of anisotropic nature, e.g. of reconstituted wood particle board such as to be suceptible of rupture in a planar direction immediately adjacent the adhesive layer. The adhesive may be applied as a series of spots or longitudinally extending stripes . The adhesive or interposed thin sheet layer may be of contrasting colour. |
