<p>The pneumatic governor is connected to the fuel injection pump of a compression-ignition i.c. engine. It comprises a diaphragm (5) mounted on the governor rod assembly, and subject to the partial pressure in the intake. The diaphragm is connected to the control rod (8) which is opposed by a control spring (10) acting against a rod stop with an auxiliary control spring (14). The springs provide a powerful counter-effect during idling and a weaker effect on the diaphragm as speed increases. The stop consists of a stationary guide rod (13) with a stationary support (15) for the main control spring. The support has a hinged lever (16) which is linked to the diaphragm which pushes it to compress the auxiliary control spring.</p> |
