The roller press is used for hot compacting of granular material such as prereduced iron or sponge iron. The rollers on a mandrel have an envelope built up of a number of detachable segments on the circumference. The segments and mandrels have a smooth cylindrical contact face. The system ensures that contact pressures for segments at a working temperature >1000 deg.C remain approximately equal to those in cold conditions. On the outside circumference of the mandrel (2) are arranged pivoted clamping brackets with lugs (40) which hold stepped ends (34) of the roller segments (6). The contacting faces of the projections of the segments are at an acute angle to the rotating axis of the mandrel. A clamping bolt (42) passes through the segment and is fixed with nuts at each end.
