<p>The tracked vehicle for rough ground has special half tracks fore and aft. Two half tracks are at the rear of the vehicle, and one or two at the front. All the tracks are driven, each track frame being pivotted about a horizontal, transverse axis above the frame, with an extension of the frame set above the pivot as an operating lever. Hydraulic rams (7) engage the operating levers to tilt the tracks over rough ground. The spearate suspension of each track enables the vehicle to cover obstacles without altering the tilt of the main chassis too much. This provides greater control for the driver. In military vehicles the increased stability results in better gunnery.</p> |
