A welding rig for tubular conical posts with a longitudinal welded seam is fitted with pairs of clamping jaws as in the parent patent. One pair is used during the alignment of the weld gap as retaining cramp; the other is used as a torsion cramp for rotation around the longitudinal axis of the work-piece. In this addn. the pairs of clamping jaws are carried by a scissor-like structure with two swivelling arms, pivoted diametrally to the weld seam at a small distance from the underside of the tube. This is a more precise and more rapid way of aligning the sheet metal edges of the slotted tube in the correct posn. for welding.
