Accumulator battery with switch means

The invention relates to a switching means for use in an accumulator battery. A switch means (2) is located at the lowest level practicable with the battery housing (8), well below the level of the electrolyte (6). A conductor post (4) is connected through a switch (S) to a positive plate (10) and is provided with a conventional positive terminal (18). The switch (S) may be encapsulated to prevent acid attack, and may be operated by remote control. The switching means is operable to prevent power being drawn from the battery by unauthorised persons who, for example, may be tampering with a vehicle with the intention of starting its engine.
