1518087 Dry transfer sheets LETRASET INTERNATIONAL Ltd 28 Aug 1975 [4 Sept 1974] 38672/74 Heading B6C A dry transfer suitable for exterior use, e.g. signs, comprises a flexible transparent or translucent carrier sheet, one or more indicia in polymeric material containing methane linkages and providing high tensile strength and durability, and a layer of permanently tacky pressure-sensitive adhesive over-lapping on to the surface of the corner sheet, the adhesive being characterized by a specific minimum peel bond strength. Preferably the carrier is polyethylene or styrene-butadiene co-polymer with a release coating of polyvinyl butyral, polyvinyl alcohol or polyamide. The indicia are formed from condensation of polyisocyanates and polyols and the adhesive is biased on a polyvinyl ether. After removal of a release sheet, the transfer is pressed against a receiving surface and on removal of the carrier sheet, the adhesive shears around the indicia. To facilitate positioning, a split release sheet is used in combination with strips of adhesive above or below the indicia, and reference marks can be transferred to a removable strip of masking tape positioned below the area of the sign. |
